Inside the Novaluxia Expo Booth: Sign, Scan, Install

Most booths at a retail expo want one thing from you, and it is a stop. The booth we stood in for two days wanted something slower: for visitors to walk away with the novaluxia app already installed. That idea explains the table, and it explains the traffic at the booth: the busiest people on the floor were not the ones holding brochures. They were the ones standing beside a visitor, watching a phone that was not theirs.

The other question came up all day, usually from someone who had gone looking for a novaluxia download and landed on a page that felt wrong. A sales pitch was the last thing they were after. What they wanted to know was which listing was real. On the booth side that answer is short, and both lines sit in the note further down. The sign and the table card#

The first thing anyone saw was the sign. Beyond Shopping, Smarter Living, in clean letters across the top of the blue booth, angled to catch people walking the aisle. It sounds like a promise. It is also a description of the table: the shopping app is step one, and everything around it shows what living with it looks like.

On the table sat the smallest piece of copy at the whole expo, and the most photographed one. A tent card in white and blue, with the line READY TO DISCOVER MORE? SCAN HERE! above a QR code that opened the listing. Brochures fanned out beside it for anyone who wanted paper instead.

That card did more for the booth than any of us did. People who would never stop for a salesperson stopped for a QR code, because a scan is a small commitment and the phone is already in their hand.

The novaluxia app, explained by hand#

Here is what the two days looked like from behind the table. A visitor scanned the code, and one of us stayed with them while the novaluxia app finished installing. Nobody handed them off to a setup screen. The install is the part where people give up, so it is the part we stayed for.

The expo floor is full of people who already shop online and want to know what is different here. The short version is on the what is Novaluxia page: a social e-commerce platform built around group buying, points and community. The booth version was a phone in hand and a few minutes of showing, which lands faster than any explanation.

The novaluxia download question#

We kept count for a while, then stopped, because the answer never changed. Most of the visitors who asked about a novaluxia download wanted reassurance. Search results for a download include a crowd of pages that borrow the name, and by the time someone reaches a booth they have usually seen at least one of them.

The check we gave them is the same one we use. The official Android listing carries the Google Play package uni.UNI7878C48. The official iPhone listing carries the App Store id 6746707874. A page that can show neither identifier is not the page to install from. That is the whole test, and it fits on the back of a receipt.

One-on-one, as long as it takes#

The quiet part of the booth was the side table, where those of us who knew the app best sat down with whoever had questions. Some visitors came with a phone and a list. Others came because a relative had sent them a link, and they wanted a second opinion before opening it. A single conversation could run long enough that the next visitor in line started listening in, and nobody minded, because everyone was waiting for the same thing.

Not every question was about installing. A good number were about the mechanics: how a group buy fills, what points are for, and what happens when a group does not fill. We answered from the screens on the phone rather than from memory.

The merchant table#

At the far end of the booth, the team was handing out merchant recruitment material to sellers who came by.

The view from behind the table#

By the second afternoon, the aisle in front of the booth had a rhythm. Demo on one side, questions in the middle, brochures moving out the door on the other. We took the wide shot below during one of the stretches when nobody at the table was free.

Two days is not long enough to learn a platform. It is long enough to watch the same question arrive from a hundred people and notice which answer makes them relax. The two identifiers do that. After that the booth has done its job, and the phone does the rest.
